Jen's Story

I have a heart for Africa -- especially for its people... most especially for its orphans.  God called me to Africa when I was 10 years old and then took 25 years preparing me for my calling.  I asked Him often why I had to wait so long when I had heard my calling so clearly, and why He waited until I was the mother of four of my own children to send me to Africa.  He showed me, as always, that His timing is perfect.  There were orphans waiting on me, I now had a mother's heart, and my own children needed to experience the joy of serving Christ as well.  I met Ms Agnes and her children on my first visit to Uganda in 2008, and fell completely and totally in love with them.  Ms. Agnes has taught the children the skill of making beads out of strips of magazine paper, which they turn into jewelry.  She originally taught them how to do this to give them a trade and a boredom buster.  God, however, had bigger plans.  We bring this beautifully crafted jewelry back to the States and sell it here, sending them all the money to pay for food, clothing, and education.  I returned to Uganda in 2010 to see Ms. Agnes and the children, and plan to return as often as God allows.  Until then, with my heart half in Africa and half in Texas, I will continue to sell beads and help take care of these precious orphans from here, through Fair Havens Ministries.  I will also continue to share their story and mine in hopes of motivating other people to find their calling in Christ.  I love to speak to MOPS groups, church circles, children's groups, classes, etc. and to sell the beads wherever God opens a door.  I pray that He will use me to care for these children in a way that is powerful for everyone who witnesses it, most especially His children.
